O seu estudo pioneiro sobre o comportamento humano e animal, aliado ao seu dom para comunicar ideias e informação, fizeram dele o responsável pela popularização destes assuntos. É autor de inúmeros best-sellers, como O Macaco Nu, A Natureza da Felicidade e Descobrindo o Seu Bebé (Arteplural Edições, 2009) - este último traduzido em 29 línguas por todo o mundo. Mais recentemente publicou O Desenvolvimento para a Criança (Arteplural 2011).
