Deborah Tannen é professora catedrática no Departamento de Linguística da Universidade de Georgetown em Washington, DC.
É conhecida mundialmente como a autora deste livro que, nos anos 90, esteve quase quatro anos na lista dos bestsellers do New York Times, incluindo oito meses em número um. Foi traduzido em 29 línguas e esteve também nas listas de bestsellers no Brasil, Canadá, Inglaterra, Alemanha e Holanda.
