David McKee nasceu em Devon, Inglaterra (2 de janeiro de 1935 - 7 de abril de 2022). É o autor e ilustrador de vários livros infantis, nomeadamente da série do elefante Elmer, uma das personagens mais queridas pelas crianças em todo o mundo. Publicou o primeiro título desta série em 1989 e conta com mais de 20 títulos publicados e mais de 8.5 milhões de exemplares vendidos em todo o mundo, traduzidos para mais de 50 línguas. Entre as suas histórias mais marcantes contam-se História verdadeira e triste de seis homens que procuravam a paz, King Rollo, e Two Monsters.
