Conceição Evaristo é escritora, poeta e ensaísta, e uma das vozes mais expressivas da literatura afro-brasileira contemporânea. Temas como a discriminação de raça, de género e de classe são transversais em toda a sua produção escrita. Foi distinguida em 2018 pelo conjunto da sua obra com o Prémio Governo de Minas Gerais de Literatura, em 2019 recebeu o Prémio Jabuti de Personalidade Literária do Ano e, em 2023, o Prémio Intelectual do Ano atribuído pela União Brasileira de Escritores. Tem participado ativamente na valorização da mulher negra, da diversidade e da cultura afro-brasileira.
