Clóvis Bulcão é professor de História do Instituto Superior de Educação do Rio de Janeiro. Escreveu, entre outros, a biografia romanceada Leopoldina – A Imperatriz do Brasil (Ed. Rocco), Padre António Vieira – um Esboço Biográfico (Ed. J. Olympio), Pequena Enciclopédia de Personagens da Literatura Brasileira (Ed. Elsevier) e trabalha atualmente na biografia da família Guinle, uma família tradicional da elite financeira e social carioca, célebre desde o início do século XX.
O Pirata do Rei na Terra do Sol é o seu primeiro romance publicado em Portugal.
