César Aira (Argentina, 1949) é um dos mais importantes autores da literatura sul-americana contemporânea. A sua voz narrativa, única e inclassificável, granjeou-lhe uma legião de admiradores e o estatuto de autor de culto. Publicou mais de uma centena de livros, incluindo romances, contos, ensaios e teatro, pelos quais recebeu inúmeras distinções, designadamente o Prix Roger Caillois, o Premio Iberoamericano de Narrativa Manuel Rojas e o Prix Formentor 2021, este último pela sua «recriação incansável do impulso narrativo, a versatilidade do seu relato inacabável e a ironia lúdica da sua imaginação impaciente».
