Catherine Sauvat nasceu em Paris, em 1957. Jornalista e escritora de origem austríaca, viveu durante anos entre Paris e Viena. É autora de numerosas biografias de escritores e artistas, traduzidas em várias línguas, entre os quais Robert Walser, Stefan Zweig, Arthur Schnitzler, Alma Mahler e Rainer Maria Rilke. A Isabelle Eberhardt, um dos homens desta galeria de mulheres, dedicara já uma biografia.
