Contador de histórias, Carlos Pateira nasceu em 1951, em Lisboa.
Oriundo de pequena burguesia esclarecida, teve uma infância que revê com satisfação.
Colecionou diplomas e certificados, acumulando alguns saberes, descartando outros.
Entre várias ocupações, e não menos ofícios, privilegiou, com intenção e gosto, o complexo universo das pessoas.
Foi oficial miliciano na Guiné.
Experimentou o suficiente para preencher a vida de meia dúzia de cidadãos senhores de comum senso, escorreito.
Viajou pelos seis continentes e continua até que o corpo se negue, o juízo deslace ou a alma lhe doa.
