Carlo Maria Martini

Carlo Maria Martini nasceu em Turim em 1927. Ingressou na Companhia de Jesus em 1944 e foi ordenado sacerdote em 1952. Licenciado em Teologia pela Universidade Gregoriana de Roma, iniciou a sua atividade docente no Pontifício Instituto Bíblico em 1962. Em 1969 foi nomeado por Paulo VI magnífico reitor da Universidade Gregoriana, cargo que exerceu até 1978. Em 1979, João Paulo II nomeou-o arcebispo de Milão e em fevereiro de 1983 foi consagrado cardeal.
