Carita Monteiro

José Carita Monteiro was born in Alter do Chão, Alentejo, in 1951. He followed the normal path of the young people to whom his parents were able to "give studies", until the end of the high school course in Portalegre. Without grades to enter the Superior, he ended up mobilized to Guinea.
His writing, poetry and prose, denounced, since 1975, the first environmental aggressions and those that were already taking shape against persecuted animal species, some of which were endangered, a concern that materialized in two books of poetry: "Os Sinos Roubados" and "A Sobreira de Luas", the latter awarded with an Honorable Mention in the "Sebastião da Gama" Poetry Prize, in Azeitão.
The prose, more precisely the novel, against the backdrop of an extreme aggravation of environmental aggressions and the consequent changes in fauna and flora, emerged from 2017 onwards, culminating in the publication of a work divided into two volumes: "Alter – Sortilégio e Estigma", 2018 and "The Gift of Yogyakarta", 2022.
