Buda
Buddha was the name given to Siddhartha Gautama, who was born around 563 BC in Lumbini, in what is now Nepal. Until the age of 29, Siddhartha lived surrounded by wealth, never having experienced the miseries of the world. During a walk through the city, he encountered the profound misery, old age, disease, and death that were rampant everywhere, and experienced his spiritual awakening. In a short time, he developed his doctrine – Buddhism – and gathered around him numerous followers who, for the next 45 years, followed him and recorded his thoughts.
