Bruce Chatwin (1940-1989) é um dos mais aclamados escritores de literatura de viagens de sempre. Foi jornalista do Sunday Times Magazine durante vários anos, e a carta de demissão que mandou ao seu superior ficou célebre – nela lia-se simplesmente: «Fui para a Patagónia.» O seu livro mais celebre é, justamente, Na Patagónia, um clássico da literatura contemporânea, relato de viagem e retrato da solidão dos grandes territórios do sul do mundo. A sua carreira literária foi curta (mais longa terá sido a de viajante), mas de enorme brilho. Os seus livros, entre os quais O Vice-Rei de Ajudá, O Que Faço Eu Aqui?, Utz, Anatomia da Errância ou Regresso à Patagónia (com Paul Theroux), foram publicados pela Quetzal.
