Bring Me The Horizon
The band's first album, Count Your Blessings (2006), positioned BMTH as an emerging band in the deathcore scene, with a brutal and heavy sound that stood out for the aggressiveness of the guitars and Oliver Sykes' guttural vocals. Despite being well-received in the underground scene, the album divided opinions, and it became evident that the band was still finding its sound.
In 2008, the band released Suicide Season, which marked a significant shift in BMTH's sound, moving from deathcore to a style closer to metalcore. This album was a commercial and critical success and included tracks such as "Chelsea Smile" and "Diamonds Aren't Forever," which helped establish the band as a growing force in metalcore. Suicide Season was also the first album to showcase the band's interest in exploring new sonic territories, with electronic music remixes later released on a special edition of the album.
The evolution continued with the release of There Is a Hell, Believe Me, I've Seen It. There Is a Heaven, Let's Keep It a Secret. in 2010. This album was more ambitious in terms of composition and production, incorporating elements of electronic music, orchestrations, and choirs. Tracks like "It Never Ends" and "Blessed with a Curse" stood out for their complexity and exploration of themes such as depression, loneliness, and spirituality. The album was well-received by critics and helped the band further expand its audience.
In 2013, BMTH released Sempiternal, which is widely considered a turning point in the band's career. This album featured Jordan Fish as keyboardist and co-producer, and his influence helped shape a more melodic and accessible sound without losing the intensity that characterized the band. Sempiternal included hits such as "Can You Feel My Heart," "Sleepwalking," and "Shadow Moses," which became some of the band's biggest anthems. The album was a commercial and critical success, solidifying BMTH as one of the leading bands in modern metalcore.
The following album, That's the Spirit (2015), marked an even greater transition, with the band fully embracing alternative rock and pop, moving away from metalcore. The album was a resounding success, with singles like "Throne," "Drown," and "Happy Song" showcasing a more polished and radio-friendly sound, yet still full of energy and emotion. That's the Spirit debuted at number two on the US Billboard 200 chart, demonstrating the band's international reach.
In 2019, BMTH released amo, an album that pushed the boundaries of the band's music even further, incorporating influences from pop, electronic music, and even hip-hop. The album was once again well-received, although it generated controversy among older fans due to the departure from the heavier sound that characterized the band's earlier work. Singles like "Mantra," "Medicine," and "Mother Tongue" showed the band's willingness to innovate and experiment, without fear of alienating their audience.
In addition to studio albums, BMTH has released EPs and collaborations with other artists, constantly exploring new musical directions. The EP Post Human: Survival Horror (2020) was a return to a heavier sound, mixing elements of metal, punk, and electronic music, and included collaborations with artists such as Yungblud and Amy Lee of Evanescence. This EP was seen as a response to the global circumstances of 2020, addressing themes of survival, fear, and resilience.
Bring Me The Horizon is known for its electrifying live performances, where the intensity of the music is accompanied by a stunning visual production. The band has been a constant presence at festivals and on global tours, where it continues to attract a diverse and dedicated fanbase.
Bring Me The Horizon's ability to reinvent themselves and blend genres while maintaining artistic integrity has made the band one of the most innovative and influential in the contemporary music scene. With a career marked by constant evolution and experimentation, Bring Me The Horizon continues to be a dominant force in modern rock, challenging expectations and redefining the boundaries of what a rock band can be.
