Bothayna Al-Essa é uma famosa escritora do Kuwait, autora de mais de uma dezena de romances, além de livros para crianças. É também a fundadora da Takween, uma livraria e editora de vários livros aclamados pela crítica. A Biblioteca do Censor de Livros conquistou o Prémio Sharjah de Criatividade Árabe na categoria de romance, em 2021, e a sua edição em inglês foi finalista do National Book Award para literatura traduzida, em 2024. Al-Essa foi escritora residente no Centro Britânico de Tradução Literária durante o verão de 2023, e recebeu o Prémio Nacional do Kuwait de Incentivo pela sua obra de ficção em 2003 e 2012. É autora de livros sobre escrita e orientou oficinas de escrita em todo o mundo árabe.
