Boris Groys é filósofo, crítico de arte e teórico dos media. A originalidade e solidez da sua investigação sobre as vanguardas russas e a arte contemporânea, as relações entre arte e política e entre o artista e a sociedade mereceram-lhe o reconhecimento internacional. Nascido na antiga República Democrática Alemã, cresceu na União Soviética, estudou filosofia, matemática, lógica e linguística. Emigrou mais tarde para a República Federal da Alemanha, doutorando-se em Filosofia na Universidade de Mu¨nster. Entre 1994 e 2009 foi professor na importante Escola Superior de Artes e Design de Karlsruhe. Hoje leciona na Faculdade de Artes e Ciências da Universidade de Nova Iorque.
