Erudito monge alcobacense. Nasceu em 1569 em Almeida e aí morreu em 1617. Chamou-se Baltasar de Brito e Andrade, antes de professar na Real Abadia de Alcobaça de S. Bernardo ou da Ordem de Cister. Fez estudos em Roma e Florença e doutorou-se em Teologia na Universidade de Coimbra. A partir de 1611, residiu na corte de Madrid. Além de cronista da sua ordem religiosa foi nomeado cronista-mor de Portugal, por morte do seu predecessor, Francisco de Andrade.
