Avni Doshi nasceu em Nova Jérsia, em 1982, e vive atualmente no Dubai. Estudou História de Arte no Barnard College e concluiu o mestrado nessa mesma área no University College London. Foi laureada com o Prémio Tibor Jones em 2013 e recebeu uma bolsa Charles Pick da Universidade de East Anglia em 2014. Tem textos publicados na British Vogue, na Granta e no Sunday Times. Açúcar Queimado, o seu romance de estreia, foi originalmente publicado na Índia com o título Girl in White Cotton, tendo aí vencido o Prémio Sushila Devi 2021. Após a publicação no Reino Unido, Açúcar Queimado foi finalista do Prémio Booker 2020 e do Women’s Prize 2021. Eleito Livro do Ano de 2020 pelo Guardian, Economist, Spectator e NPR, os seus direitos foram já vendidos para 25 idiomas.
