At The Gates

At the Gates é uma banda sueca de death metal melódico formada em 1990, em Gotemburgo, por Tomas Lindberg (voz), os irmãos Anders e Jonas Björler (guitarra e baixo), Alf Svensson (guitarra) e Adrian Erlandsson (bateria). Considerada uma das fundadoras do chamado "som de Gotemburgo", a banda tornou-se referência incontornável do death metal melódico, influenciando gerações de grupos em todo o mundo.

O álbum de estreia, The Red in the Sky Is Ours (1992), apresentou um som complexo, com arranjos quase progressivos e um equilíbrio entre brutalidade e melodia. Já With Fear I Kiss the Burning Darkness (1993) e Terminal Spirit Disease (1994) mostraram uma banda em rápida evolução, refinando a fórmula com maior foco em intensidade e estruturação melódica.

O ponto alto veio com Slaughter of the Soul (1995), obra-prima que se tornou um dos discos mais influentes do metal dos anos 90. Direto, agressivo e melódico, o álbum ajudou a definir o death metal melódico como género e consolidou At the Gates como uma das forças criativas mais importantes do metal europeu. Apesar disso, pouco depois do lançamento, a banda separou-se, deixando um legado que se tornaria lendário no underground.

Após anos de inatividade, At the Gates regressou em 2007 para concertos especiais e, em 2014, lançou At War with Reality, o primeiro álbum em quase duas décadas, que foi aclamado como um regresso triunfal. Seguiram-se To Drink from the Night Itself (2018) e The Nightmare of Being (2021), trabalhos que demonstraram a capacidade da banda em manter a intensidade e, ao mesmo tempo, explorar novos horizontes líricos e musicais.

Ao vivo, At the Gates continua a ser sinónimo de energia devastadora, revisitando clássicos ao lado de novos temas que mantêm a mesma força.

Hoje, At the Gates é venerada como uma das bandas mais importantes do death metal melódico, pioneira do som de Gotemburgo e referência permanente na história do metal extremo.
