Nasceu em Kiruna, na Suécia, em 1966; atualmente vive em Mariefred. Estudou Direito em Uppsala e, tal como a sua personagem Rebecka Martinsson, foi durante uns tempos advogada de direito fiscal. Aurora Boreal, romance que publicou em 2003, valeu-lhe o Prémio de Melhor Romance Policial de Estreia, atribuído pela Academia Sueca de Escritores, sendo depois adaptado ao cinema. Os seus livros têm sido um êxito imediato, obtendo o elogio da crítica e dos leitores nos vários países onde são publicados.
