He was born in Bustos, Oliveira do Bairro, in 1930. He settled in Porto in the early 1960s. He debuted by publishing poems (under a pseudonym) in 1955 and, subsequently, books of chronicle-fiction, short stories, children's stories and various studies. He translated and wrote literary criticism. He has abundant collaborations scattered across magazines and newspapers. In some of these, he directed literary supplements. He also dedicated himself to professional journalism, from which he is retired.
