Arlindo Manuel Caldeira é licenciado em História e investigador do CHAM (Universidade Nova de Lisboa/Universidade dos Açores). Sobre a temática da obra O Apelo da Liberdade, publicou, além de dezenas de artigos em revistas portuguesas e estrangeiras, os livros Escravos e Traficantes no Império Português: O Comércio Negreiro Português no Atlântico durante os Séculos XV a XIX (Lisboa, A Esfera dos Livros, 2013; Schiavi e trafficanti attraverso l’Atlantico, Milão, Mimesis Edizioni, 2020) e Escravos em Portugal: Das Origens ao Século XIX (Lisboa, A Esfera dos Livros, 2017). É também autor de Mulheres Enclausuradas: As Ordens Religiosas Femininas em Portugal durante os Séculos XVI a XVIII (Lisboa, Casa das Letras, 2017).
