Aquilino Ribeiro

Aquilino Ribeiro was born in Beira Alta, in the municipality of Sernancelhe, in the year 1885, and died in Lisbon in 1963.
He left behind a vast body of work, in which he cultivated all literary genres, sharing with Fernando Pessoa, in the words of Óscar Lopes, the primacy of 20th-century Portuguese Literature. He was a full member of the Academy of Sciences and, after April 25th, posthumously reinstated at the National Library, decorated with the Order of Liberty and honored, on his centenary, by the Ministry of Culture.
In September 2007, by unanimous vote of the Assembly of the Republic, his body was laid to rest in the National Pantheon.
