António Moraes d'Abreu Sarmento
António Moraes de Abreu e Sarmento (Vale Benfeito 1929 - Lisbon 1996), graduated in Civil Engineering from the Instituto Superior Técnico in 1956 and dedicated his professional life to the water supply for Lisbon.
He joined CAL - Companhia das Águas de Lisboa in 1957 as a Resident Engineer at the Valada Pilot Station, later becoming Chief Engineer of the Exploration Sector, Head of the Production Sector, and Head of the General Workshops and Meters Sector. From 1974, at EPAL – Empresa Pública das Águas de Lisboa, he was Head of the Production Sector and Coordinator of the Planning Office, Director of Planning Services, Member of the Lisbon Waters Inspection Commission, and Administrator, and finally, under the name EPAL – Empresa Pública das Águas Livres in 1981, Advisor to the Board of Directors.
A founding member of APRH – the Portuguese Association of Water Resources – in 1977, he was part of its Organizing Committee, later serving as Vice-President of the Steering Committee, President of the Specialized Committee for Cultural Activities, and Member of the General Council.
Founding member of the Portuguese Association of Water Distributors in 1987, where he represented EPAL and served as President of the General Assembly.
A founding member of AREPAL – the Association for the Support of EPAL Retirees – in 1982, he was part of the organizing committee and served as President of the General Assembly.
Vice-President (1983-86) and President of the Board of Directors (1987-94) of the Casa de Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro.
