Nascido em Lisboa em 1951, licenciado em Matemática, na Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa, e Mestre em Álgebra na mesma Faculdade, onde lecionou, integrando atualmente os quadros docentes da Universidade Lusíada de Lisboa.

Fora do âmbito da Matemática, tem desenvolvido intensa atividade nos campos da Malacologia e da literatura fantástica, sendo autor de diversos livros e de numerosos artigos.
