António Martins Quaresma possui licenciatura e doutoramento em História. Tem desenvolvido trabalho de investigação em especial sobre o Litoral Alentejano, tratando temas diversos, como a história portuária e a fortificação marítima. Esse labor traduziu-se na edição de vários artigos e livros.
Mais recentemente tem-se ocupado do estudo da área fronteiriça, mais concretamente do território de Serpa, individualmente e em colaboração. A presente publicação sobre Vila Nova de São Bento é o primeiro resultado dessa aproximação.
