António Carmona Rodrigues
António Carmona Rodrigues was born in Lisbon in 1956.
He graduated in civil engineering in 1978, and in 1981 he went on a scholarship to Delft, in the Netherlands, where he did postgraduate studies in Fluvial Hydraulics. He received his doctorate in Environmental Engineering from the Nova University of Lisbon in 1992, where he has since served as Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental Sciences and Engineering.
Carmona Rodrigues also works in research and consulting in the areas of Environment and Water Resources. He began his political career in December 2001 when he was elected Councillor of the Lisbon City Council and appointed Vice-President.
Between April 2003 and July 2004 he served as Minister of Public Works, Transport and Housing in the XV Constitutional Government.
In 2005 he was elected President of the Lisbon City Council for a 4-year term, which was interrupted in May 2007.
In 2007 he was elected City Councillor, a position he currently holds alongside his professional activity as a teacher and consultant in the field of engineering.
