António Calvo nasceu em dezembro de 1939 na aldeia de Nabo, concelho de Vila Flor, Trás-os-Montes. Ali fez o exame de 4.ª classe aos dez anos e viveu até aos vinte e um.
Em agosto de 1961 ingressou no exército onde militou 32 meses, e em abril de 1965 emigrou clandestino para França, onde casou e trabalhou seis anos. Emigrou novamente, com a família, mas desta vez legalmente, para a Austrália.
Regressou à aldeia que o viu nascer em outubro de 1983 onde vive e trabalha ainda hoje.
