António Caeiro nasceu em Moscavide em 1949, filho de pais algarvios. Começou a trabalhar aos 16 anos, numa companhia de seguros. No dia 25 de Abril de 74 estava em Paris, exilado. Jornalista profissional desde 1975, com experiência na imprensa escrita e na rádio. Ingressou em 1978 na agência noticiosa portuguesa ANOP, antecessora da Lusa, onde trabalhou até ao Verão de 2015. Foi correspondente em Cabo Verde (dois anos) e depois em Pequim, onde viveu 19 anos. Colabora regularmente com o semanário Expresso. É autor de três livros sobre temas chineses: Pela China Dentro (2004), Novas Coisas da China (2013) e Peregrinação Vermelha (2016). Em 2018, com José Pedro Castanheira e Natal Vaz, publicou A Queda de Salazar: O princípio do fim da ditadura.
