Anthony Giddens foi professor de Sociologia em Cambridge e, entre 1997 e 2003, dirigiu a London School of Economics and Political Science. Pioneiro do conceito de Terceira Via, Giddens escreveu mais de trinta livros, entre os quais "O Mundo na Era Global" e "A Europa na Era Global", ambos publicados pela Presença, sendo com frequência consultado por líderes políticos de todo o mundo.

É largamente aclamado pela sua teoria da estruturação e pela sua visão holística das sociedades modernas.
