Anthony Burgess

Anthony Burgess was born in Manchester in 1917 and died in London in 1993. He spent six years in the army before becoming a teacher, a profession he practiced in Malaysia and Brunei. He became a full-time writer in 1959, thanks to the success of a trilogy of books set in Malaysia. He quickly gained international prestige as one of the most important and versatile novelists of his time.
