Anthony Burgess
Anthony Burgess was born in Manchester in 1917 and died in London in 1993. He spent six years in the army before becoming a teacher, a profession he practiced in Malaysia and Brunei. He became a full-time writer in 1959, thanks to the success of a trilogy of books set in Malaysia. He quickly gained international prestige as one of the most important and versatile novelists of his time. In addition to literature, he dedicated himself to translation and writing literary reviews, plays, and musical compositions, including a piano concerto, a violin concerto, and a symphony.
