Anna Sewell
Anna Sewell (1820-1878) was born in Norfolk, England. A fall at age 14, while returning from school on a rainy day, caused her irreversible injuries to her locomotor system. Unable to walk, she was forced to regularly use small horse-drawn carriages, which contributed to her love for this animal and fueled her concern for the mistreatment inflicted upon them. Her work The Black Horse"The Story of Horses," now considered a classic of children's literature, was originally written to instill understanding and kindness in people who work with horses.
