Angelo Poliziano

Angelo Ambrogini (1454-1494), comumente conhecido como Poliziano ou, na sua forma portuguesa, Policiano, foi um humanista, dramaturgo e poeta de Florença, um dos artistas que reviveram o latim durante o Renascimento. Geralmente considerado o maior entre os poetas italianos do século XV, membro e fulcro do círculo de intelectuais reunidos em torno do senhor de Florença, foi autor de obras em latim, grego e vernáculo, e alcançou uma ampla competência filológica e uma admirável perfeição formal de estilo. Com ele, «o Humanismo começou a manifestar-se não mais no contexto do compromisso civil e político, em benefício – por assim dizer – dos outros, mas numa experiência exclusiva e inteiramente solitária de pesquisa e refinamento individual».
