André Barata, filósofo de formação, é professor na Universidade da Beira Interior, onde tem desenvolvido ciclos de estudos na área da ciência política. Tem por áreas de interesse, além da filosofia social e política, o pensamento fenomenológico e existencial e, ainda, a problemática da identidade portuguesa. Tem publicados vários livros de ensaio, como "Metáforas da Consciência" (2000) e "Primeiras Vontades" (2012). Organizou os livros "Representações da Portugalidade" (2011) e "Estado social: De Todos para Todos" (2014). Foi diretor da revista de filosofia "Análise" (2005/2006). Num registo mais literário publicou, com Rita Taborda Duarte, "Experiências Descritivas" (2007).
