Anaïs Nin

Anaïs Nin (1903-1977) was born in Paris. Her mother was the daughter of the Dutch consul in Havana, and her father was a Cuban pianist and composer. Her childhood was spent among renowned musicians and artists, and traveling throughout Europe. In 1914, her father abandoned the family, and her mother decided to return to New York, where she had grown up, with her three children. Aboard the ship that took her away from sunny Europe, full of history and art, Anaïs began writing a long letter to her father, a man who both fascinated and terrified her. The letter was never sent, but she continued writing it every day, transforming it into her diary and giving rise to a passion for writing.
In 1924, already married, she returned to Paris. She associated with some of the greatest literary, artistic, and avant-garde figures of her time: Antonin Artaud, Otto Rank, André Maurois, Lawrence Durrell, Constantin Brancusi, and, of course, Henry and June Miller.
On the eve of World War II, Anaïs is forced to leave Paris and returns to New York. She lives in Greenwich Village and, although the intellectual environment is conducive to writing, her novels are rejected by publishers. She then agrees to write erotic stories for an anonymous collector, which will be compiled and published posthumously. Delta of Venus and Little birdsAfter self-publishing some of his novels, his work began to receive strong critical acclaim and, from the 1950s onwards, was published with great success in Europe.
