Ana Luísa Amaral nasceu a 5 de abril de 1956, em Lisboa. Autora de mais de três dezenas de livros, entre poesia, teatro, ficção, infantis e de ensaio, a sua obra está traduzida e publicada em diversos países. Obteve várias distinções e prémios em Portugal e no estrangeiro, como a Medalha da Cidade de Paris, a Medalha de Ouro da Câmara Municipal do Porto, por serviços à Literatura, o Prémio Literário Correntes d’Escritas, o Premio de Poesía Fondazione Roma, o Grande Prémio de Poesia da APE, o Prémio PEN de Ficção, o Prémio Vergílio Ferreira, ou, ainda, o Prémio Rainha Sofia de Poesia Iberoamericana. Traduziu diferentes poetas, como Emily Dickinson, William Shakespeare ou Louise Glück. Foi professora jubilada da Faculdade de Letras do Porto e membro sénior do Instituto de Literatura Comparada Margarida Losa, onde trabalhou nas áreas de poéticas comparadas e estudos feministas. Morreu a 5 de agosto de 2022.
