Amos Tutuola

Amos Tutuola nasceu em 1920 em Abeokuta, na Nigéria. Filho de um cultivador de cacau, teve apenas seis anos de instrução escolar. Fez formação para ser ferreiro e exerceu essa profissão na Força Aérea britânica durante a Segunda Guerra Mundial. Depois, trabalhou muitos anos como funcionário público e esteve na companhia nacional de Radiodifusão da Nigéria até à reforma. O seu primeiro romance, O Bebedor de Vinho de Palma, foi publicado em Inglaterra em 1952, por recomendação de T.S. Eliot, e valeu-lhe o reconhecimento internacional. Ao longo da sua vida, Tutuola escreveu e publicou nove obras de ficção. O seu último livro, The Village Witch Doctor and Other Stories, foi publicado em 1990. Morreu em Ibadan em 1997.
