Almudena Grandes (1960–2021) nasceu em Madrid. O seu primeiro livro, Las Edades de Lulú, foi aclamado e premiado pela crítica. Posteriormente, romances como Te Llamaré Viernes, Los Aires Difíciles e Besos en el Pan converteram-na numa das mais consolidadas e importantes autoras da literatura espanhola atual.
Em 2010, publicou Inés y la Alegria, o primeiro de uma série intitulada «Episodios de Una Guerra Interminable», que continuou com El Lector de Julio Verne (2012), Las tres bodas de Manolita (2014) e Os Doentes do Doutor García (2017), galardoado no ano seguinte com o Prémio Nacional de Narrativa e com o Prémio Liber, finalista do Prémio Casino da Póvoa 2022, e publicado em Portugal pela Porto Editora.
A Mãe de Frankenstein é o quinto título desta série de enorme sucesso.
