Alex Ross, é crítico musical do The New Yorker desde 1996. Anteriormente escrevia para o New York Times. Já recebeu numerosos prémios e reconhecimentos pelo seu trabalho, incluindo dois ASCAP Deems Taylor Awards para crítica musical, uma Bolsa de estudos da editora Holtzbrinck na American Academy de Berlim, uma Bolsa de estudos Fleck, do Banff Centre, e uma Letter of Distinction do American Music Center pelos seus importantes contributos para o estudo da música contemporânea.
