Estudou Filosofia na Universidade de Leeds, onde depois trabalhou no departamento de Sociologia, antes de se tornar escritor. Vive em Leeds, no norte de Inglaterra, com a mulher e o filho.
O Homem dos Sussurros, o primeiro thriller que escreveu sob este pseudónimo, foi um verdadeiro êxito internacional, tendo os seus direitos sido vendidos para mais de 20 países.
