Escritor, dramaturgo, argumentista, actor e humorista, Alan Bennett nasceu em Leeds, Inglaterra, em 1934 e é uma das figuras cimeiras das letras britânicas, ao ponto de ser considerado um tesouro nacional. Conquistou os mais importantes prémios na área do teatro, cinema, televisão e literatura e foi também distinguido com o Prémio de Autor do Ano nos British Book Awards em 2006. Para além de A Leitora Real, finalista do Bollinger Everyman Wodehouse Prize e do Independent Booksellers’ Book Prize em 2008, no catálogo da ASA está já publicada a sua obra Só lhes Deixaram as Roupas que Vestiam…
