Referência na área dos estudos pós-coloniais, Achille Mbembe (n. 1957) é professor de História e de Ciência Política na Universidade de Witwatersrand, em Joanesburgo, e leciona na Universidade Duke, nos EUA. Um dos pensadores contemporâneos mais prolíficos e ativos, tem uma extensa obra publicada sobre história e política africanas, na qual explora os temas do poder e da violência. É autor, entre outros ensaios, de De la postcolonie — Essai sur l’imagination politique dans l’Afrique contemporaine (2000), Sortir de la grande nuit — Essai sur l’Afrique décolonisée (2010), Crítica da Razão Negra (Antígona, 2014) e Políticas da Inimizade (Antígona, 2017).
