Abel Salazar nasceu em julho de 1889. Concluiu o Curso de Medicina com a classificação máxima de 20 valores e, 1915. Foi, com apenas 30 anos de idade, Professor Catedrático da Faculdade de Medicina do Porto. Criou o Instituo de Histologia onde realizou um excecional trabalho de investigação, sendo os seus estudos publicados mas mais prestigiadas revistas cientificas internacionais. Além de médico e cientista, revelou-se como um notável pintor e escultor, pensador e escritor. Como Pintor, Abel Salazar espelhou na sua obra uma grande atração pelas mulheres anónimas de trabalho heroico e árduo, reflexo da consciência social do seu tempo. A sua atração pelo povo reflete bem a sua atitude solidária com os mais desfavorecidos que procurou sempre valorizar e exaltar.
