Wagging Tongues is set in Northern England during the 1980’s.
The backdrop is a working-class society that struggles with hardships. These struggles create toxic environments. The story centers around Lisa who has endured years of abuse from her husband, Johnny. Johnny is a foul-mouth bully. One day, he walks out on her, leaving behind a note. Lisa’s seventeen-year-old son, Charlie, a talented soccer player blames Lisa for his departure. But not all appears what it seems. Lisa unearths some startling evidence that suggests foul play. Unsure if her husband is the victim, she is afraid she might be accused of wrongdoing. She feeds gossip to the wagging tongues and almost gets away with the deceit until Johnny’s best-mate turns up on her doorstep with an unusual gift. Lisa is soon back in the same abusive lifestyle.
Lisa’s sixteen-year-old daughter, Jean, is courting Jim, but their relationship ends when he demands sex. However, when Jim’s mam tragically dies, Jim’s life turns around.
This dark, gritty story speaks volumes of a harsh, abusive reality. However, the conclusion achieves redemption.
